With the theme of “Enhancing ROI of Enterprise Technology Investments”, the 38th edition of Asia IoT Business Platform will focus on two main agenda within the Thailand 4.0 initiatives.

1) Industrial Automation & Logistics Improvement

With manufacturing being the largest contributor of the country’s GDP (accounting for 27.1%), Thailand is aware of the significance of productivity towards economic growth and manufacturers are encouraged and educated to adopt Industry 4.0 solutions. To date, the Thai government has already provided tax incentives supporting over 73 digital projects launched estimated to be worth ?743 million (US$ 23.3 million).

Notable local projects include Siam City Cement (SCCC) who has transformed their cement factory in Saraburi Province into a smart connected facility, at the same time rolling out new technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics and remote tracking; while Mitr Phol Group has integrated their agriculture business model with digital technologies in three main parts of it working process - supply chain management, plant maintenance, and inventory management. With enablers such as IoT sensors, big data analytics, cloud computing and automation, they have managed to implement a digital procurement system, stock pooling strategy and conduct real time operations management.

2) Smart City & Digital Economy

With the launch of the National Smart City master plan, Thailand has called on and incentivised private industry to launch ventures devoted to innovation, asset management and city development. The Smart City Committee had goals to expand the number of smart transformation to 100 zones in 76 provinces by 2022. The government is also expected to deploy 5G services across the nation, potentially increasing mobile broadband penetration by 133%. Thailand’s Smart City vision focuses on improving the quality of living via 6 key platforms, namely Smart Mobility, Smart People, Smart Living, Smart Economy, Smart Governance and Smart Energy & Environment.

Thailand rolled out the Digital Government Plan 2017-2021, which aims to develop integrated digital capabilities within sectors and ministries. An integrated information network will be developed cooperatively with a focus on four key development models, namely Government Integration, Smart Operations, Citizen-Centric Services, and Driven Transformation. Recently, the first version of the online portal was launched.

In January 2017, Bank of Thailand launched the nation’s first e-payment service named PromptPay as an initiative towards the country’s Smart Economy. Since then, over 334 million transactions have been made. Similarly, local players such as Krungsri and Siam Commercial Bank have also moved towards digitalization with improved mobile apps experience and cashless self checkout at malls and supermarkets.

Endorsed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), the Ministry of Industry (MOI), co-hosted with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), the 38th edition of Asia IoT Business Platform aims to bring together end users from public and private sectors to explore the possibility of adopting IoT solutions to build smarter cities and efficient business. Over 500 senior stakeholders from government, telecommunications, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, healthcare, banking and financial services will be present to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by IoT.
