Go Cloud for Digital Transformation

One of the biggest hindrances for traditional businesses to implement remote working is the inability to gain access to company data stored in legacy IT infrastructure located in the office. Does moving business data on Cloud help? SGTech invited some industry partners to share on how Cloud Services can help businesses, and even enable remote learning.

During the session, Biqmind Content Strategist Joanna Goh shared how companies can take their first steps in digital transformation through implementation of Cloud, Alibaba Cloud Solutions Architect Ying Fengwei shared on the different types of Cloud Services, and lastly Fun Learners Principal Chee Chin Young shared how his e-learning business is anchored on Cloud.

Key Takeaways

Biqmind's Ms Goh shared that Cloud Services can be implanted for multiple aspects of the business, from customer-facing functions like Sales and Marketing to internal Operations and IT, based on each company’s objectives.

SaaS, PaaS, IaaS?

Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (Paas) and Infrastructure as a Service (PaaS) are common acronyms that surface when referring to services on Cloud.
What exactly do they mean? Alibaba Cloud's Mr Ying described Cloud using simple layman analogies:

  • IaaS is like a basic space with no renovation.
  • PaaS is a partially renovated space that would require furniture.
  • SaaS is like a hotel, fully renovated and functional and they often provide a specific service.

Learning on Cloud

Lastly, Fun Learners' Mr Chee shared on his school has adopted cloud computing to enhance online learning. He summarised that the key differences between a physical class and cloud-enabled online learning are:
(i) students can access the learning anytime through the lesson recording function, and
(ii) students can tap on the AI-enabled e-assessment function to find out their strengths and weaknesses.
These allow the school to provide a differentiated learning experience.
