Working from Home in The Isolation Economy: Adjusting your Workforce and Solutions You Can Adopt

What do business owners need to know about adjusting their workforce, and the tools and ready-to-use technology solutions to facilitate Work From Home (WFH)?

SGTech Co-opted Councillor Mr Ivan Chang presented in a webinar held on 8 April, offering a framework that businesses can refer to facilitate their employees’ transition to working from home. He also shared insights on maintaining good working relationships while Working from Home during this Circuit Breaker period and temporarily shifting job scopes to support organisational goals.

3As of Working from Home

(The 3As framework helps employers to assess and identify gaps in the infrastructure, tools and mental capacity for companies to work from home)

Ivan shared on the 3A framework to help companies work from home effectively: Ability, Accessibility & Agility.

He urged business owners to take this time to consider shifting to newer digital technologies and take steps towards digital transformation.

To help business owners to access their current operations within the framework, companies can ask themselves the following questions:
Ability: Do my workforce have the RIGHT setup at home to Work from Home
Accessibility: Do my employees have remote access to tools and files for work? Is my company using the correct tool for internal and external communication? Is my company’s data secured?
Agility: How do I support my company to develop the mental capacity to Work from Home?

(Providing the right Accessibility tools for employees is critical for companies to be efficient and productive during the Circuit Breaker period.)

Not all jobs can be performed remotely. Employers can consider adjusting individual employees’ job roles to allow employees to work from home. Alternatively, this is an excellent opportunity to make use of the downtime to have employees attend training to upskill themselves.

(Employers may adjust their employees’ job roles or split tasks among team members to allow them to Work from Home)

You can catch the webinar recording here for an in-depth explanation of how the 3As can be applied in your business.
