JumpStart Ignite: Face-to-Face with Facebook in Singapore
On 30 May 2019, SGTech and Facebook welcomed over 60 individuals in the local start-up community at the ACE Ideation Centre. The community had gathered for a panel dialogue with experts from Facebook to learn about tested-and-proven strategies for startups to succeed in a foreign market, and an open discussion about challenges faced by local start-ups.
The session started with an introduction of 123JumpStart by Chun Leong from SGTech.
123JumpStart is SGTech’s start-up engagement programme. The programme’s objective is to help start-ups grow and succeed, by providing four forms of assistance:
Participants also learned about talent initiatives that are relevant to start-ups, including:
SME-Talent-Programme (STP): eligible Singapore local companies can receive up to 70% subsidy for their interns’ stipend
P-MAX Programme: eligible local SMEs can recruit, develop and retain newly-hired PMETs with a $5,000 assistance grant
Next, Mr Gavin Chua, Head of Infrastructure Engagement APAC at Facebook moderated the panel dialogue alongside Arthur Jeng, Mark Lozano and Elaine Truong from Facebook HQ.
During the dialogue, the panellists took turns to introduce their area of expertise before taking questions from the floor. While the panellists shared their experience on scaling and adapting products for different overseas markets, as well as tips on getting funding, the participants contributed their experience addressing challenges in Singapore.
The sharing session concluded with a networking session over with pizza and drinks.
We thank the panellists from Facebook and our participants for the enriching session. We also thank our co-organiser, ACE (Action Centre for Entrepreneurship)
for providing the event venue and outreach, and our outreach partner Padang&Co
