Data Centres of the Future – Innovation & Digital Transformation are Key
SGTech and IMDA jointly hosted the Data Centres Discovery Track at SG:D Industry Day on 22 November 2018. The session saw a turnout of over 100 attendees representing the data centre ecosystem.
Mr. Christopher Street, Co-Chair of SGTech Data Centre Committee, gave the opening address alongside Mr. Koh Wee Sain, Director of National Infocomm Infrastructure at IMDA. He shared about the dedicated Data Centre Committee that was formed through SGTech in July 2018 to address and advocate on challenges/opportunities within the industry. Together with the committee, challenges associated with manpower, land and power were identified and will continue to be discussed with the authorities. Industry representatives were encouraged to join SGTech as a member and be part of this collective effort through the committee to advance the industry.

The session saw sharing from the government agencies and industry. BCA and IMDA shared on initiatives pertaining to prefabricated MEP systems as well as tropical data centres. Digital Realty and Huawei on the other hand, lent insights on the rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on data centres. This was capped with a lively panel discussion along the theme of “Driving Data Centre Transformation: Innovative Technologies, Best Practices, Motivations & Challenges”. Members of the Data Centre Committee including ST Telemedia, Equinix and Facebook were part of the panel.
