Participants Share Their Takeaways From SGTech’s First Overseas Mission Trip
To support our members who wish to grow beyond Singapore, SGTech led a delegation comprising 21 members from 16 companies on a mission trip to Hong Kong and Shenzhen from 21 to 25 May 2019.
Some participants shared with us which elements in the mission trip were meaningful to them.
“I’m glad this mission had scheduled C-level meetings as well.
The programme was well planned, well executed and had elements of work and fun.
The visit to Shenzhen, especially to Huawei, was the highlight of the trip.
I would recommend SGTech’s mission trips for networking with top-level executives.”
- Mr Raju Chellam, Vice President, New Technologies, Fusionex Pte Ltd
“The SGTech mission provided an important platform for us to launch Tagit in Hong Kong and China and showcase our omnichannel digital engagement solutions on cloud as well as on premise, to partners and financial institutions and government agencies looking to deliver seamless digital solutions to their end users.
The trip was fruitful insofar we managed to build relationships with several companies in Hong Kong and China who are a part of our ecosystem. The mission provided fantastic learning and networking opportunities and I highly recommend other SGTech members join such mission trips and leverage the opportunities provided.
It also gave a chance to understand the service offerings of our peers within the Singapore group and how we can complement each other in the future. It was very rewarding from that perspective.
As a part of the trip, SGTech had set up several meetings with well-known institutions such as Cyberport, HKTDC, Huawei and Tencent which has opened up new avenues of engagement for us. I would highly encourage the other SGTech members who didn't join us this time, to participate in future mission trips to leverage the benefits from such missions.”
- Mr Shaqueel Taher, Vice President - Sales (North Asia), Tagit Pte Ltd
“Our company is headquartered in Korea. We are growing and expanding beyond Korea, first to Singapore and next to Hong Kong. Two places that we visited that are very useful are InvestHK and Cyberport. We were able to find out vital information such as how to set up an office in Hong Kong, getting talents, knowing the terrain where we would be putting ourselves, and all the grants that we can make use of and any other business so that we can fully optimize our operations when we get started.
Coming on these data centre tours is very useful for us. Although we visited many data centres, each has its unique setup, and we can see why they do it this way. Moreover, we can understand why they are not doing it in the same way in Singapore. Also, the local government regulations, how they regulate or not regulate the business, allows us to have a good gauge of data centres’ growth in Hong Kong, which will directly impact Singapore’s growth.
Of course, I will be glad to join future trips like this. It can be in Singapore as well. Ultimately, SGTech, we represent Singapore. So, therefore, I think we should get together more.”
- Mr Tee Yoke Cheong, Director, Onion Technology Singapore
